“Gettysburg's Greatest” Awards: Employee Recognition Program
The “Gettysburg Greatest” Awards program is designed to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding contributions of our dedicated administrators and support staff members who consistently go above and beyond in their service to Gettysburg College.
I. Nomination Process:
Open Nominations: Each spring all faculty, administrators, support staff and students will have the opportunity to submit nominations for either an individual Gettysburg College administrator or support staff member or a team of administrators and/or support staff (max of 15 people) who have gone above and beyond or have accomplished great work in the last 12 months. Nominations can be made through the Gettysburg's Greatest Awards Nomination Form on the Human Resources website.
Eligibility: While faculty and students are able to submit nominations, the Gettysburg Greatest Awards program is only available to administrators and support staff of the College.
Award Criteria: Nominations should include a statement sharing what inspires you about the nominee or team. Provide specific examples showcasing their hard work, remarkable achievements, or successes in one of the following categories.
- Achievement Award
Recognizes an employee or team for their hard work, a remarkable deed, or hard-fought success in the face of difficulty or opposition. - Collaboration of the Year Award
Recognizes an employee or team who has worked cross-departmentally or cross-divisionally to accomplish an important goal - Encouragement Award
Recognizes an employee or team who is a positive force, who supports and encourages our students and / or their colleagues. - Inclusive Excellence Award
Recognized an employee or team who embodies our core values of inclusivity, civility, diversity, and service to others. - Unsung Hero Award
Recognizes an employee or team of employees who is often “behind the scenes” and has gone above and beyond the call of duty. - Rookie of the Year – This award is only available to an individual, not a team
A new employee (hired within the last 12 months) who has hit the ground running and has made a significant impact to College programs or services.
Confidentiality: Nominations and deliberations should be kept confidential to ensure the integrity of the process.
II. Committee Representation:
A diverse committee will be responsible for overseeing the Gettysburg's Greatest Awards program. The review committee, consisting of selected representatives from both the Administrative Advisory Council (AAC) and Support Staff Council (SSC), will evaluate the nominations based on the categories list above. Human Resources will also be represented in this committee to ensure equity, answer committee questions throughout the review process, and provide guidance during the review period. The committee's role will include reviewing nominations and selecting the awardees.
III. Awards:
The "Gettysburg's Greatest" Awards program will highlight our dedicated administrators and support staff who are going above and beyond in their roles at the College.
Individual award recipient will receive a certificate personally signed by the President, a monetary reward for each category ($250 each), and a professional headshot or group photo to be featured on correspondence/communications/social media (Communications and Marketing).
In the event a team is chosen as the winner or a category, each team member will be presented with a certificate personally signed by the President. Additionally, the team will receive additional special recognition appropriate for the size of the group (as an example: a choice of either enjoying a catered lunch on campus or receiving a sponsored lunch in town - up to a value of $250). The team will also have the opportunity to have a professional headshot or group photo group photo to be featured on correspondence/communications/social media (Communications and Marketing).
Award winners will be announced at the Spring Meeting for Administrators and Support Staff in May.
IV. Timeline:
Annual Call for Nominations (late January): Announce the program to the college community and open the nominations portal.
Nomination Window Closes (mid-March): HR will perform an initial vetting/review of nominations before moving a nomination to committee review. HR may also speak with the manager/supervisor to ensure that they are supportive of an employee’s nomination.
Nomination Review Period (late-March): Review Committee will meet at the end of March to review the nominations and make their final selections by early April.
Announce Award Recipients (May/Spring Meeting for Administrators and Support Staff): The President will read a brief summary of each award winner’s nomination and they will be awarded with their certificate at the Spring Meeting.
